How Not to Woo the Woman You're Infatuated With: Dead Flowers and Football Slippers

A woman reports that a grade-school classmate from Waukee became infatuated with her a year ago and has begun leaving unusual gifts at her door.

West Des Moines police are following up on a report by a 24-year-old woman who said she is being harassed by a grade-school friend who has allegedly been using a technique not known to be found in any "How to Win Love" books.

He's been leaving her dead flowers and Hawkeye football slippers.

The woman said she had a chance encounter with the man, who now lives in Waukee, at a downtown Des Moines Octoberfest celebration a year ago and he has been bothering her since.

The harassment allegedly took place over the telephone and on a social media networking site. When she blocked his access, she began getting “unusual gifts,” including pots of dead flowers, according to West Des Moines Police Officer D.J. Frunzar’s report.

On the most recent incident, the suspect left a flower pot with dead flowers, a pair of Iowa Hawkeye slippers and a card, in which he had allegedly written “hope all is well.”

That evening, she again attended the Octoberfest celebration. Upon returning to her car, she found that someone had damaged the front passenger side grill. She told police she did not see the suspect at the celebration, but some of her friends indicated they had.

The case remains under investigation.
