West Glen Farmers' Market Returns on a New Day

is two weekly summer events by holding its farmers’ market and Fridays at the Fountain on different days of the week, according to a news releas.

Throughout the summer, the farmers’ market will be every Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. with Fridays at the Fountain live band concerts on Friday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. Both events are family-friendly outings open to all ages.

Kickoff week begins Wednesday, June 27, featuring the farmers’ market with an assortment of organic foods, crafts, vegetables and local specialty items.

Thursday evening features the West Des Moines Chamber’s Business After Hours where West Glen and First Bank will co-sponsor a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on the grassy area next to the bank. Appetizers and drinks will be provided for business professionals during the networking event.

These events will be the first in West Glen since the mixed-use property was acquired by the Silverman family represented by Metonic Real Estate Services. World Group Commercial Real Estate manages the property on behalf of the Silverman family.

“With the purchase of West Glen, we made the commitment to strengthen the retail and entertainment experience and serve as a good community steward,” said Brian Morrissey, principal of Metonic Real Estate Services. “That commitment began the day we acquired the property and continues with kickoff week as we embrace and celebrate the West Des Moines community by providing family-friendly events all summer long! It is our goal to help improve the growth and the quality of life here in central Iowa.” 

In addition to the events, ownership has embarked on infrastructure improvements by planning to invest $1.5 million in renovations including fountain repair, landscaping, painting and lighting, as well as parking lot and building maintenance. 

The West Glen Farmers’ Market will be every Wednesday from June 27 to Aug. 29, with the exception of the week of July 4. It will be held on the grassy area next to Blue Moon Dueling Piano Bar from 4 to 8 p.m.

Enjoy rocking good music during Fridays at the Fountain every Friday from June 29 through Aug. 31. Concerts will be next to Blue Moon from 6 to 9 p.m.  Admission is $5 and children 13 and under are free.

Iowa-based bands that will be featured, in order of performance, are Flipside, Split Second, B.S. and the Liars, Throwing Toast, Monkey, Monkey, Monkey, Toaster, Faculty Lounge, Final Mix, Bonne Finken and Bound2Be.
