Why Did Woman Parked in Expectant Mothers’ Spot Allegedly Shove Her Grocery Cart into Car?

West Des Moines police also have questions about why the suspect drove away in a minivan with license plates issued to another vehicle.

When West Des Moines police determine why a woman allegedly shoved her grocery cart into a car in the Hy-Vee parking lot last weekend, they may also know why the white minivan she drove away in bore plates issued for a maroon 1987 Chevrolet Caprice.

Police don’t know why the woman shoved her cart into a blue 2009 Infinity G37 owned by Stephen Charles Elliott, 72, of Clive.

But, Officer Troy Shelley wrote in his report that surveillance video suggests the act was deliberate. The suspect allegedly shoved the cart across three parking stalls toward Elliott’s car, damaging the left side of the rear bumper.

Elliott told police the woman – whose identity was verified from a WIC assistance receipt – had parked her vehicle in the expectant mother’s parking stall.

Police are continuing their investigation.
