What Happened to SUV ‘Escapes’ West Des Moines Man

Man thinks someone stole his Ford Escape while he was out drinking

A 36-year-old West Des Moines man was unable to give police many details about how his 2008 Ford Escape came to be missing, but he couldn’t find it and assumed that someone had taken it.

Police think it may be more likely that he lost it in an alcoholic blackout, according to a recent report on file at the West Des Moines Police Department. The owner of the vehicle said he only had one set of keys to the SUV and he still had them in his pocket.

He said he had stopped by Charlie’s Filling Station, 305 Grand Ave.,  about 11 p.m. on June 13, but doesn’t remember much after that. He reportedly drank four drinks and then blacked out.

Police interviewed the man’s mother, who said her son’s vehicle was still at the bar when she left shortly after midnight.

The owner of the SUV doesn’t know why anyone would want to take it because he doesn’t owe money on the vehicle, police said.
