What's Open, What's Closed for Good Friday and Easter in West Des Moines
Good Friday is a state holiday in some parts of the country, but not in Iowa.

This weekend is Good Friday and Easter, the three days set aside around the world for Christians to celebrate the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Good Friday is not a federal holiday. It is a state holiday in Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Indiana, Louisiana, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Tennessee and Kentucky, although Kentuckians only get a half-day holiday. Good Friday is also a holiday in U.S. territories Guam and Puerto Rico.

What’s Open, What’s Closed?
West Des Moines Community Schools are in session.

Dowling Catholic High School will be in session. A Good Friday Liturgy will be held at 2 p.m. There will be no classes on Monday and Tuesday, April 1-2, in observance of the Easter holiday.
City of West Des Moines offices will be open. Unrelated, the service may be disrupted for users of the city’s web site between 2-7 p.m., when routine server maintenance and updating is scheduled. Access may be interrupted for up to two hours, the city said in a news release.
The West Des Moines Public Library will be open on Good Friday, but it will be closed on Easter.

U.S. Post Office locations will be open.
Banks regulated by the federal government, but major financial markets will be closed on Good Friday. Both the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ will be closed to trading. Trading will resume on Monday on U.S. markets, though several European stock exchanges will be closed.
