What's Open, What's Closed in West Des Moines on the Fourth of July
Both aquatic centers in the city will be open if your Independence Day plans involve a cool dip – and admission rates are deeply discounted.

Many businesses and most public offices and services will be closed on Thursday, July 4, in West Des Moines and the metro area.
Here's a list of what's open and what's closed
CLOSED

- All U.S. post offices. No mail will be delivered or collected.
- No trash or recycling will be collected on Thursday. Thursday collections will move to Friday and Friday collections will move to Saturday.
- DART buses will not run on July 4.
- Most banks will be closed. Wednesday is a U.S. bank holiday.
- Tne West Des Moines Public Library will be closed. So will city offices.
- Polk County offices are closed; including county courts, the county Health Department and the county treasurer's office.
- Iowa State offices are closed; including all drivers license stations, the Iowa Workforce Development Center and IowaWORK centers.
- Federal offices are closed.
DELAYED
- Recycling, yard waste, and garbage will not be collected in West Des Moines on July 4 in honor of the holiday. Regular collection is delayed one day the remainder of the week, with regular Friday collection on Saturday. - Valley West Mall will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the Fourth; check the mall website for specific store hours.
- Jordan Creek Town Center will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the Fourth; check the mall website for specific store hours.
- Both the Holiday Park and Valley View aquatic centers will be open from noon to 6 p.m. – a great way to cool off at a discounted rate that day, $3 per person instead of the typical $8 a head.
