Whew! What a Whirlwind Week it Was in Valley Junction: 2012 in Review

As Valley Junction celebrated its Great American Main Street Award, Patch celebrated the people who made it happen.

“So, West Des Moines, how was your week?” Historic Valley Junction Foundation director Jim Miller asked in a guest editorial as the week drew to an end. “Quite simply, ours was extraordinary.”

That might well be the understatement in the 25-year history of the Historic Valley Junction Foundation, whose efforts earned Great American Main Street accolades for the historic retail and cultural district.

We told you about flood survival, individual commitment to the district and offered somepersonal reflections about what it was like battling rivers almost 20 years ago this coming summer.

A story about Betty Hill-Swander was picked up by Huffington Post, which named her the “Greatest Person” for Thursday, April 5.
