Roger Schemmel of West Des Moines won first place with his “Losers Say What Chili” in the Historic Valley Junction Foundation’s “Chillin’ in the Junction” chili cook-off contest.

Schemmel and his daughter, Susanne, had a friendly competition going. Susanne also entered the contest, along with 10 other contestants.
