Why Did Mom Report Son’s Date to West Des Moines Police?

Also from the police blotter, kids jump from a garage roof and avoid pot charges and there was something in a baby stroller besides a baby.

Recently from the blotter:

June 29: A 17-year-old Ankeny juvenile was charged with public intoxication after her date’s mother complained to police of the girl’s behavior at the Jordan Creek Town Center movie theaters. The mom said her son had seen the girl pour a shot of tequila into a plastic drink bottle and then consume it. Officer Nathan Ladwig wrote in his report that the girl “had trouble understanding questions” and repeated them several times. Her blood alcohol content was registered at .022.

June 27: A man living at Signature Place Apartments, 210 S. Praire View Drive, told police that his .357 handgun, valued at $609, a belt clip holster, his driver’s license and $20 in cash were stolen from his 2011 Chevy Silvarado pickup sometime overnight. He said the gun was loaded with three .357 hollow-point shells and two .38 steel ball shells. The weapons permit and the credit cards remained in his wallet. He told Officer Shawn Miller that he is new to the area and only his wife knows about the gun.

June 29: A man living in the Glen Oaks gated community reported that sometime between 10:30 p.m. June 28 and just after midnight on June 29, someone entered his garage and removed golf clubs and a bag valued at $1,700 from the rear carrying portion of his golf cart.

June 30: Two juveniles were released to their parents’ custody after police were dispached to the Hamlet apartment complex at 2200 E.P. True Pkwy. to investigate complaints of two young males sitting on the garage roof smoking pot. The incident occurred about 5:30 p.m. When officers arrived, the boys, ages 15 and 16, jumped to the ground and ran away. Officer Rob Weir located one of the suspects hiding behind a bush and ordered him at gunpoint to lay facedown on the ground. He was arrested without incident. The second suspect was apprehended at the Des Moines Register building off Delvan. Both said they had shared a very small marijuana joint which they had finished before police arrived. The 16-year-old claimed it had been left behind in his car by a friend.

June 30: Regina Marie Rokes, 43, of 1706 16th St., was charged with fifth-degree theft for allegedly stashing several pair of Air Jordan socks valued at $53 into a baby stroller in Scheels sporting goods store, and then asking her 11-year-old daughter and her friend of the same age to leave the store with the stroller. While loss prevention officers were questioning the girls, Rokes left the store. According to the police report, the girls were released to Rokes’ 25-year-old daughter, who had been trying to reach her mother to tell her she needed to return to the store.

June 30: Ramiro Castro Castro, 54, of 6105 Welker Ave., Des Moines, told police that his 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan van was stolen from the parking lot at 1175 Office Park Road. He said he believed the keys were left in the vehicle, as he can’t find them. The vehicle was not towed and has been reported as stolen.

July 1: An 81-year-old resident of Fountain West Health Care, 1501 Office Park Road, told police Sunday that his ruby ring valued at $5,000 had disappeared. He said he last saw the ring on June 30 and noticed it missing about 11:15 a.m. the next day. He said that he must be rolled over several times during his sleep to prevent bedsores. According to the report, the man’s wife is securing a photo, appraisal and precise description of the ring. A list of employees attending to Smith will be available for investigators.

July 1: Priority Excavating of 773 N.E. 47th Place, Des Moines reported that copper wire stored at a construction site at 1300 90th St. had been stolen. Two of the three job-site trailers had been broken into. The total loss won’t be known until an inventory is completed, but at least eight rolls of 1-inch copper water lines, valued at $2,500, were stolen. A pair of long-handled bolt cutters was recovered at the scene.
