UPDATE: 12-Year-Old Charged with Stabbing West Des Moines Junior High Student

Lockdown at Clive Elementary School lasted about 15 minutes.

Clive police have charged a 12-year-old in a stabbing near an elementary school Tuesday, the Des Moines Register reports.

Authorities charge that the Clive youth stabbed a 14-year-old victim twice in the back. The suspect was charged with disorderly conduct and carrying dangerous weapons and taken to a juvenile facility, the newspaper said.

The victim, who police are not naming, was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition, authorities said.

Both boys are students at Indian Hills Junior High School, said Clive Police Sgt. Vern Lukehart.

Police and medics were called to Northwest 82nd Street and Alive Avenue in Clive around 3 p.m. Tuesday because two boys were fighting, police said.

Nearby Crestview Elementary was locked down for 15 minutes as a precaution.

The suspect apparently had the pocket-knife used in the stabbing at school earlier that day, Lukehart said.

A K-6 elementary school was locked down for about 15 minutes Tuesday after two boys were fighting nearby and one of them was stabbed twice in the back.

The Crestview Elementary School, located at Northwest 82nd Street and Alice Avenue in Clive, was placed on lockdown about 3 p.m. because of its proximity to the area where the fight was occurring, KCCI reported.

The injured youth was treated at the scene by Clive paramedics, then taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Authorities have not released the juveniles’ names and the incident remains under the investigation.
