Woman Tells Police She Was Sexually Assaulted After Hot Tub Party

In another case, West Des Moines police and fire officials investigated a fire in a tree, then a broken window in the same neighborhood.

The following reports were taken from the West Des Moines Police Department blotter:

At 2:30 a.m. on Oct. 1, a 19-year-old woman told police that her 43-year-old neighbor sexually assaulted her after they, her mother and her mother’s friend used a hot tub at the friend’s home. The suspect reportedly had not been invited to join the group, but showed up.

The alleged victim went inside and the suspect followed, where the assault reportedly took place. The woman told police she kicked him in the shin and fled, and the party dispersed quickly because the fire department had been called about complaints about a smoker/grill/firepit.

At their own home, the alleged victim told her mother what had happened and alleged assault was reported to police. A sexual assault kit was taken at Mercy West Lakes Hospital.

When police went to the suspect’s home, no one answered the door, according to Officer Ryan Purdy’s report.

Also on Oct. 1, police took a report from a 75-year-old man who thinks his neighbor threw a brick and shattered a large picture window at his home around midnight, apparently because she thought he had called the police and fire department in regard to a fire in a dying tree on her property.

The man said neither he nor his wife were aware of the fire and hadn’t called authorities, but she reportedly insisted it was him because his home was the only one in the neighborhood with interior lights on when authorities showed up.

The investigation is continuing.
