Works of women composers to be performed on December 22

The works of women composers from the Renaissance era to today will be featured at a holiday concert at Faith Lutheran Church

Make your holidays even more special with an evening of holiday music by women composers, 7 p.m., December 22, at Faith Lutheran Church, 10395 University Avenue, Clive, Iowa.

The concert will feature vocal music of many our finest women composers ranging from the Renaissance to the 21st Century – this concert will be a combined performance and lecture on an often bypassed study of classical music history – the influence and history of women composers and what they have brought, and continue to bring too classical music. The performers are all members of the Faith Lutheran Church Music Department and vocal students of Dr. David Johnson, Director of Music at Faith. A free-will offering will be collected.
To get to Faith Lutheran Church, located in the western part of the Des Moines, Iowa, area, take Interstate-235 to the Valley West Drive exit (Exit 1). Go north on Valley West Drive to University Avenue and then go west beyond the K-Mart store. Faith Lutheran Church is located by the Clive water tower. Parking is available at the church.
The concert is part of Soli Deo Musica, Faith Lutheran Church’s fine arts ministry. Other upcoming events during the 2014-15 season include Two Davids in Concert—featuring Dr. David Piersel and David Liljedahl, playing four-hand piano works, slated for the afternoon of Sunday, February 15; and a performance of Renee Clausen’s A New Creation, featuring the Faith Lutheran Church Chancel Choir, local soloists and instrumentalists from the greater Des Moines area, slated for the afternoon of Sunday, May 17.
