Yard Waste Collection Begins April 1 in West Des Moines

Yard waste collection begins April 1 in West Des Moines.

Yard waste collection is available to all residents who are eligible for solid waste collection (from single-family homes up to and including 4-plex units).  Yard waste is collected by Waste Management on residents’ normal trash day.

Compost It! Bags and Stickers may be purchased from Dahl's or Hy-Vee for $7.75 per bundle (5 bags).  If a yard waste bag is purchased elsewhere without "Compost It!" printed on the bag, a yard waste sticker will be required at a cost of $1.15 each ($1.20 effective April 1^st).  There is no limit to the number of yardwaste bags residents may put out on the curb.

Bundles of brush must be no more than 18" in diameter and no more than four (4) feet in length.  Bundles should not exceed 40 pounds and must be bound with rope, twine, or string.  One yard wastesticker must be attached to each bundle.  There is no limit to the number of bundles residents may put out on the curb.

Premium Yard Waste Collection is an optional service for residents who wish to have a convenient 96 gallon wheeled cart (same size as the Curb It! Recycling cart) for disposal of their yard waste.  For more information, please select this link:  Premium Yard Waste Program

First-Time Enrollment: Residents may purchase their yard waste cart and sticker at the Public Works Facility, 560 S. 16^th Street, WDM.  The cost is $60, or $80 if you wish to have the cart delivered to your residence.  Residents should call 222-3480 to arrange picking up their cart during Public Works' normal working hours.  Every year an annual sticker is required to be affixed to the cart.  Cost for the sticker is $105.00.

Annual Renewal: For residents participating in the Premium Yard Waste Program, renewal stickers must be purchased to initiate collection of your yard waste carts!  Please select this link for purchasing options:  Premium YardWaste Program.
