You’ll ‘Heart’ this Coffee Roaster with a Social Conscience

Corazon Coffee Roasters in Valley Junction wants to leave a small environmental footprint with its big-tasting beans.

I’m a coffee snob, so it was a real treat to follow my nose to Corazon Coffee Roasters at 516 Elm Street while strolling around Valley Junction the other day.

“Corazon” is Spanish for “heart,” and this place isn’t over-billed. Owner Scott Warner’s coffees are organic, fair-trade and often shade grown; the packaging is biodegradable; and Warner and his wife, Laura Coco, are conscientious about donating to good causes.

Heart, and then some. The coffee has attitude. The pour-over dark roast Warner gave me to sample was bold, but smooth and not at all burnt-tasting.

Stop by for a bag of beans from a selection of coffees and teas from around the world. The store also has a small inventory of accessories for coffee and tea aficionados.

In the video, Warner dispels some of the misconceptions about coffee, such as the notion that the darker the roast, the greater the caffeine. The opposite is true and Warner explains why.
