Nearly 30 Greenwood County inmates transferred after 4 overdose on opioids (wibw.com) — Nearly 30 Greenwood County inmates have been moved to the Lyon County Jail in Emporia after four detainees overdosed on an unknown opioid substance, prompting an evacuation of the Greenwood County jail and courthouse. Emergency crews used Narcan and hospitalized the affected inmates, while Greenwood County authorities continue investigating how the contraband entered the facility and expect criminal charges.
3. Lady Hornet Volleyball Doesn't Move in Top 25, but Finally Home Tuesday (kvoe.com) — Emporia volleyball fans finally get to see the No. 17 Emporia State Lady Hornets at home Tuesday night, ending a grueling 16-match stretch away from town. The team hosts Pittsburg State at White Auditorium at 6 p.m., kicking off a short homestand that also includes a weekend matchup with Washburn before another long road swing.
4. Julia Frances Gardner George (emporiagazette.com) — Services are planned in Lebo this weekend for Julia Frances Gardner George, a longtime Lyon County-area educator who earned degrees from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia and Emporia State University. The 98-year-old former Hartford and Reading teacher is remembered for her faith, community service, and dedication to students, with family inviting friends to share memories and a meal after Saturday's celebration of life.
