Today's riddle: What has a cap but no head? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Overland Park to get a $28M cut in Black & Veatch big incentive deal. Here's how (johnsoncountypost.com) — Overland Park just approved a massive incentive package tied to Black & Veatch's $1.34 billion campus redevelopment, creating a special sales tax district expected to generate about $40 million. The city's roughly $28 million share would fund complete-street upgrades and infrastructure around a new city hall on College Boulevard, potentially transforming the College and Lamar corridor into a dense, walkable city center.
2. Elderly Couple Plows Into Entrance of Overland Park Grocery Store (newsbreak.com) — An elderly couple accidentally drove their car into the entrance of the Price Chopper at 8686 Antioch Road in Overland Park around noon Thursday, but no one was hurt. Police say the driver apparently lost control before hitting the store, and fire crews and inspectors were called to assess visible damage around the entryway for any structural concerns.
3. A roach found on noodles, mice nests: Latest KC-area restaurant inspections (kansascity.com) — Several Overland Park restaurants, including K-Macho's, Denny's, Goodcents, and Hook & Reel, were cited for seven or more critical violations in recent health inspections. Issues ranged from moldy food and dirty equipment to bare-hand contact with ready-to-eat items and even a live cockroach on noodles, giving local diners important details about recent food safety problems across Johnson County.
4. Student Fellowship Opportunities (nyu.edu) — Law students in and around Overland Park can apply for the ACLU of Kansas Bonney Legal Summer Fellowship, one of several paid and unpaid legal fellowships now accepting applications nationwide. The list includes remote, regional, and national programs with deadlines stretching into early 2027, offering options in civil rights, consumer law, criminal justice reform, and professional ethics.
