Sep 1 Topeka's Center For Peace & Justice To Host 2026 Peace Gala, Featuring Keynote By Kansas City, Kansas Mayor Christal Watson (tkmagazine.com) — Topeka residents are invited to the 2026 Peace Gala on Oct. 9 at the Topeka Zoo's Kay McFarland Japanese Garden, supporting local peace and justice work. The evening will honor Topeka organizations and faith communities, feature Kansas City, Kansas Mayor Christal Watson as keynote speaker, and offer limited-seating tickets and sponsorships that directly fund conflict resolution and restorative justice programs.
2. Race Against Breast Cancer celebrates 35 years (wibw.com) — Topeka's Race Against Breast Cancer is marking its 35th annual 5K Run/Walk at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3 at Lake Shawnee's Reynolds Lodge, with early registration set at $35. The nonprofit uses race proceeds to fund free or low-cost mammograms across 18 northeast Kansas counties, and locals can sign up, donate, and enter raffles through RABCTopeka.org.
3. From early starts to extra hydration: How Topeka-area crews are beating the heat (wibw.com) — Topeka-area construction workers and city street crews are shifting schedules, starting earlier, and relying on extra water and sports drinks to stay safe in this week's extreme heat. A City of Topeka official says crews are being kept in air-conditioned trucks when possible, while local contractors describe frequent breaks, shade, and hydration as essential on Shawnee County job sites.
4. Kansas Lottery Mega Millions, Pick 3 winning numbers for Sept. 1, 2026 (cjonline.com) — If you bought Kansas Lottery tickets, you can claim prizes of any size at the Kansas Lottery headquarters at 128 N.
