1. Should the Kansas Bureau of Investigation leave Topeka? One lawmaker says it's an option (kcur.org) — State lawmakers are debating how much Topeka and Shawnee County should help pay for a new Kansas Bureau of Investigation headquarters planned for downtown, and whether the agency should consider moving to another city if local support falls short. The project, capped at $80 million in state bonds, would replace the aging current building and keep KBI close to the Capitol and Judicial Center.
2. Kobach files petition against solar company claiming fraudulent sales scheme (wibw.com) — Kansas' attorney general has filed a Shawnee County petition alleging G3 Solar misled homeowners with promises of vanishing power bills and "free electricity for life." Topeka-area residents who bought rooftop systems from the company can contact the Consumer Protection Division on SW 10th Avenue or file complaints online to seek potential relief.
3. Washburn's Brynne Topolski named MIAA Offensive Player of the Week (ksnt.com) — Washburn volleyball standout Brynne Topolski, playing right here in Topeka, has been named MIAA Offensive Player of the Week after a record-setting hitting performance that also topped recent Division II stats. Her 43 kills helped the Ichabods to a 3-0 week as they now head on the road to face Pitt State this Friday.
4. Kansas leaders open new Emergency Operations Center in Topeka (ksn.com) — A new 50,000-square-foot Emergency Operations Center has just opened in Topeka, expanding the state's ability to coordinate responses to tornadoes, floods, wildfires and other disasters from right here in the capital. The facility, attached to the State Defense Building, doubles as a tornado shelter, can host about 100 officials, and is funded with $21 million in federal ARPA dollars.
5. Kansas Lottery Powerball, Pick 3 winning numbers for Sept. 26, 2026 (cjonline.com) — If you've got a winning Kansas Lottery ticket, you can cash any prize amount at the headquarters at 128 N. Kansas Avenue in downtown Topeka on weekdays. The piece also lists the Sept. 26 winning numbers for Powerball, Pick 3 and other games, plus how to mail in claims if you prefer not to visit in person.
