1. New Chief of Wichita (KS) Fire Department Aims to Take Agency to 'Next Level of Success' (fireengineering.com) — Wichita is getting a new fire chief, Houston veteran Michael Mire, who will take over a department facing aging stations, equipment shortages, and slow response times in some neighborhoods. He'll help decide how to fund new stations, more firefighters, and other safety upgrades after voters rejected a sales tax package that included fire infrastructure money.
   

2. KDHE Approves Engineering Design to Clean Groundwater at 29th and Grove Site (ks.gov) — Wichita residents near 29th and Grove will soon see construction begin on a major groundwater cleanup system, with Union Pacific moving toward bidding and permits after state design approval. KDHE will host an open house Sept. 12 at Brewer Community Center to explain new wells, treatment buildings, and pipelines, with additional information available at the Angelou Branch Library in Wichita.
   

3. MADD kicks off Wichita campaign to combat impaired driving, honor fallen deputy (kwch.com) — Mothers Against Drunk Driving has launched its new "Driving Change with MADD" campaign in Wichita, teaming with Scholfield Honda, law enforcement, and victims' families to fight impaired driving and honor fallen Sedgwick County deputy Sidnee Carter. The effort highlights Sidnee's Law, which toughens how prior DUIs are counted, and invites residents to Saturday's poker run at Twister City Harley-Davidson in Wichita.
   

4. Alleged sex assault during SW Kan. trip for medical care (hayspost.com) — A Wichita resident, Fawad Amiri, has been formally charged in Pawnee County with one count of aggravated sexual battery tied to an alleged July 16 incident involving a patient using medical transport in Larned. He appeared by video in district court, had bond set at $100,000 with passport surrender required, and remains jailed pending a preliminary hearing on Sept. 8.
