Today's riddle: Why was the scarecrow given an award? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Wichita in talks with Chase Koch's group about incentives, 'Somewhere District' (kansas.com) — Wichita officials have quietly discussed a possible incentive agreement with Chase Koch's Movement Musick to support a proposed "Somewhere District" in downtown, but pulled the item from the Oct. 6 council agenda without explanation. One council member says incentives would fund area development, not Koch directly, while questions remain about transparency, potential grocery plans, and how any deal could reshape downtown Wichita's future.
2. Dozens of roaches, mouse poop, old food, mold & more at Wichita KS restaurants (kansas.com) — Wichita diners may want to check recent state inspection reports, as ten local restaurants and one school kitchen in Sedgwick County were cited for issues ranging from cockroaches and dead mice to unsafe food temperatures and dirty equipment. Most violations are corrected quickly, and you can search any Kansas establishment or file complaints through the state's online food safety portal.
3. Wichita conference helps those navigating life after incarceration (ksn.com) — A reentry conference in Wichita brought together more than 250 people this week to connect formerly incarcerated residents with housing, employment, transportation, and mental health resources. Organizers say the Reentry Opportunity Conference of Kansas, known as "The Rock," aims to give people coming home a real chance at stability and hope, and they plan to bring it back to Wichita next year.
4. Heavy rain fills Kansas rivers but doesn't trigger flooding stages, researcher says (kwch.com) — Recent heavy rain has raised water levels on the Arkansas River in Wichita, with gauges jumping from under two-and-a-half feet to just over four feet, but not enough to cause flooding. A U.S. Geological Survey researcher says the dry summer let rivers absorb the downpour and cautions that this single storm doesn't predict future flood or drought conditions.
