A new documentary, "Wood Street," screening at Tallgrass Film Festival in downtown Wichita on Oct. 16 and 17, aims to put the city's encampment debate into a broader national context.
2. Local law enforcement, feds team to arrest over 100 in Wichita last month (kansas.com) — Wichita residents should know that local police, the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office, and federal agents recently teamed up to arrest more than 100 people in a focused fugitive sweep. Conducted Sept. 8–17, the operation cleared over 100 felony warrants, nearly 100 misdemeanors, and removed more than a dozen firearms from city streets.
3. Cost of complimentary: Wichita restaurants struggle to keep free chips and salsa (ksn.com) — Wichita diners may soon see changes to the once-automatic basket of free chips and salsa as local Mexican restaurants struggle with rising tomato, beef, and other food costs. Owners of Cactus Cantina & Grill and Los Compadres Mexican Grill are testing smaller portions, bulk buying, and other behind-the-scenes tweaks to avoid, or at least delay, charging customers extra.
4. Southwest bringing back summer flights from Wichita to Florida (ksn.com) — If you're planning a getaway from Wichita next summer, Southwest Airlines is restoring nonstop flights from Eisenhower National Airport to Orlando, Florida. Tickets are already on sale, giving local travelers a convenient seasonal option for theme parks and beach trips without a layover.
5. Wichita State preps for first scrimmage of preseason (ksn.com) — Wichita State men's basketball tips off its first preseason exhibition tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Charles Koch Arena against Murray State, giving fans an early look at this year's Shockers. Coaches will test chemistry and intensity across 11 players, though veteran guard Kenyon Giles will sit out with an ankle injury.
