On July 9, 2021, at approximately 9:21 AM, Sedgwick County Emergency Communications received a call reporting an active shooter at the Maize Airport located at 8001 W 45th Street North. The caller reported two suspects at the airport and another suspect leaving in a vehicle. The caller provided a description of the vehicle including the registration plate number.

Deputies and officers from several agencies responded to the airport and located a 49-year-old man and Yancy Hermosillo (35/male) near the area where the shooting allegedly occurred. Both men were detained. During a search of the area for casualties, spent shell casings and firearms were observed, but no victims or evidence of injury was found.
