"We are stunned and bewildered with Veteran’s Club’s sale of 7600 Stuart Avenue, the planned home of Camp Restoration. Camp Restoration was envisioned as a 27-home rehabilitation sanctuary for veterans and their families struggling with homelessness.

Veteran’s Club was officially donated the property by developer Chris Thieneman in October 2019 and held a groundbreaking in early March 2020 to kick off fundraising efforts. COVID-19’s impact throughout the world surely hurt fundraising throughout 2020 & 2021, however, after the passage of the American Rescue Plan Act, we on the Louisville Metro Council garnered our elected colleague’s support from Local, State and Federal governments whom in turn vocalized their support for a $3.5-$4.5 million planned fiscal appropriation through the dedication of a portion of Louisville’s $388 million ARP funds.

Now, as Louisville Metro’s Accelerator Team creates an application to apply for funds, and the Louisville Metro Council prioritized homelessness and affordable housing as the city’s first focus for ARP funds, the announcement of the sale of the planned Camp Restoration site blindsided us.

We were in direct communication with Veteran's Club ensuring they knew we had gathered bipartisan support for their project and funding it through the American Rescue Plan funds.

We recently learned that the Veteran's Club had sold the property back to Chris Thieneman on August 14 through a social media post made by Thieneman. At no point did the Veteran's Club alert us to their intention or communicate any issues or concerns with the timing or latency of ARP funding.

We are disheartened by the loss of this planned resource for homeless veterans in our community. We thank both parties for their vision in serving homeless veterans. Now, hopefully, we can find another generous investor who can make this intention become a reality. We also remain committed to ensuring funding for this project should Veteran’s Club be willing to continue to accept funding for Camp Restoration at 7600 Stuart Avenue.”
