LOUISVILLE, Ky. (July 19, 2021) – The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness’ LouVax team and Louisville Metro Animal Services (LMAS) are teaming up to protect pets and people on Saturday, July 24, from 9 am to 1 pm.

LMAS will provide low-cost pet vaccinations, including one or three-year rabies vaccines. The Department of Public Health and Wellness will provide free Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines to anyone 12 years old and older. The clinics will be held at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 201 Outer Loop.

“We know how much people love and protect their pets,” said Dr. SarahBeth Hartlage, associate medical director, Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness. “But pets also need their owners to protect themselves. We’re happy to partner with LMAS to make it easy to provide COVID-19 vaccines for pet owners.”

A pet license for cats, dogs or ferrets is required by law for Jefferson County pet owners and can be purchased or renewed during the Low-Cost Rabies Vaccination Clinic. A one-year pet license for an altered cat or dog is $10; three-year, altered pet license is $27. LMAS offers discounted licensing rates for senior citizens pets: $5 (1-year altered) or $13.50 (3-year altered).

“A pet license that is up-to-date is proof your pet’s Rabies vaccination is valid,” said Teeya Barnes, spokesperson for LMAS. “A valid pet license also ensures your contact info is up to date so if your pet gets picked up as a stray, animal control will know how to contact you. Your pet may even be escorted home by an officer, instead of being taken to the shelter.”

The Low-Cost Rabies Clinic is open to all pet owners. Dog must be on-leash and cats must be in carriers during the clinic. The DAPP vaccine (Distemper, Adenovirus, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza) and microchipping will also be available. For more info and pricing of services, visit the events page at https://www.facebook.com/LouisvilleMetroAnimalServices .
