Mayor Greg Fischer today joined officials from Brightside and Louisville Downtown Partnership to announce the launch of Louisville Downtown Sweep & Sip, a new clean-up event, in partnership with local breweries.

“Louisville Downtown Partnership and Brightside’s new Louisville Downtown Sweep & Sip event is a continuation of our work to improve and breathe new life into our downtown following the pandemic and calls for racial justice. It isn’t about bringing downtown back; it’s about making it better,” the Mayor said. “Thank you to the breweries for partnering with us to offer special incentives for volunteers and ensure these events are a success.”

The Louisville Downtown Sweep & Sip is part of the Downtown Revitalization Team’s Action Plan, which aims to ensure our downtown is a vibrant, clean, safe, equitable, and inclusive space for all people. Since April 2021, ambassadors for Louisville Downtown Partnership and the Clean Collaborative have collected more than 43,000 pounds of litter and debris.

Sweep & Sip will be held the first Sunday in August, October and November, and the second Sunday in September, with plans to resume the event in the spring. The inaugural Sweep & Sip will be held August 1.

Volunteers should meet at Goodwood Brewing, 636 E. Main St., at 11:30 a.m., and the clean-up will end at 1 p.m. The August Sweep & Sip will focus on cleaning up areas in the NuLu and Butchertown neighborhoods. At each Sweep & Sip, Brightside will provide directions for designated areas to be cleaned, as well as gloves, garbage bags and other gear that volunteers will need.

Following the clean-up, volunteers will receive a voucher they can then take to any participating brewery to receive individually crafted specials. Participating breweries currently include: Falls City Beer, Gallant Fox Brewing Co., Goodwood Brewing, Ten20 Craft Brewery, and West Sixth Brewing.

Brightside works with individuals, businesses and organizations through the community to host clean-up events across Louisville. If someone is interested in organizing a clean-up in their neighborhood, they can call Brightside at (502) 574-2613.
