Louisville – In accordance with state law and following the completion of the 2020 US Census, the Louisville Metro Council will begin the process of redistricting when a new Ad Hoc Committee on Redistricting is announced next week. The official notification required by statute to initiate the process was published yesterday in the Courier-Journal.

          On Tuesday, July 27th, during the 4:00 p.m. meeting of the Council’s Committee on Committees, James will announce the formation of the Ad Hoc Committee on Redistricting. It will be chaired by Councilman Markus Winkler (D-17) and vice chaired by Councilman Anthony Piagentini (R-19).

          The new Ad Hoc Committee will hold its first formal meeting on Wednesday, July 28th at 5:00 p.m. in Council Chambers. The schedule of subsequent meetings for the Ad Hoc Committee will be posted on the Metro Council website:  www.louisvilleky.gov/government/metro-council.

          The goal of the Ad Hoc Committee is to reapportion the boundaries  for each of the twenty-six (26) Metro Council legislative districts. Pursuant to state statutes, Metro Council Boundaries shall be drawn so that the districts are compact,  contiguous and the population of each district shall be as nearly equal as is reasonably possible.  Whenever possible, each district shall respect existing neighborhood, community, and city boundaries[JD1]
