City Of Louisville: Natural Areas Division Of Louisville Parks And Recreation Celebrates New Natural Area In Clifton Heights Neighborhood

The newest official natural area, the Clifton Heights Bradley Greenway, is equipped with marked trail amenities and offers a 1/3-mile loop on a soft-surfaced path. The Greenway was acquired through a combination of Louisville Metro’s right-of-way and parcels donated or purchased, including from the Bradley family, and has been in the works since spring of 2008.
Funding for the construction of the trailhead was provided by Metro Council District 9, in which the Greenway has been located. The trail dedication represents the first phase of development of the land in which the Greenway lies, and a future phase could involve the conversion of the current soft-surface trail to an accessible paved trail.The restoration of the Greenway has included the removal of litter and dumped debris as well as the removal of invasive plant species that previously overran the area, making it nearly impassable. These restoration efforts serve a dual benefit of improving habitats as well as creating, over time, a nice woodland area for all to enjoy.

In addition, the Natural Area Division has worked with neighborhood volunteers and the Clifton Heights Community Council over the years to improve the general woodland area in the park itself.
