Kentucky Gov. Bevin's Home: No Decision In Valuation Appeal

Bevin and his wife bought the Anchorage home in March for $1.6 million. The property is worth $2.9 million, Jefferson County officials said.

LOUISVILLE, KY — Officials are reconsidering the value of a Louisville-area home that bought Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin from a friend and campaign donor for $1.6 million.

The Bevins purchased the home in Anchorage from Neil Ramsey, a friend who owns an investment company. But the property is worth $2.9 million, the Jefferson County property valuation administrator said.

Bevin's attorney argued before the assessment appeals board Wednesday that the property was overvalued. The Bevins bought a smaller segment of the property and say the house needs major renovations.(For more local news, click here to sign up for real-time news alerts. The board did not make a decision Wednesday and plans to inspect the house in August. A decision is expected soon thereafter.

The Executive Branch Ethics Commission voted 4-1 to tell Attorney General Andy Beshear, a Democrat, it would be improper for him to investigate Bevin if he intends to run against him in 2019. The commission said Beshear could refer the investigation to other law enforcement agencies.

Beshear is widely seen as a potential challenger to Bevin in 2019. He hasn't said whether he plans to run.
