“As the threat of COVID-19 continues, we cannot forget about the economic threat some people are facing. Losing your job and still trying to make ends meet in a pandemic are cause for concern,” says Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin (D-2), who chairs the committee. “It is important to get the word out to the community on how to avoid cutoffs. We also want to remind everyone there is eviction assistance money available as well.”

Councilwoman Shanklin and President David James (D-6) organized the meeting.

“Many of our local utilities are aware of the economic hardships customers are facing and this information might go a long way in avoiding more stress in a situation already affected by COVID-19,” says James. “Those companies are ready to help.”

The committee has invited the following people to its Wednesday meeting:

  • Vince Guenthner and Dave Vogeland, Louisville Water Company (LWC)
  • Wesley Sydnor, Brad Good, and Kim Reed, Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD)
  • Marianne Butler and Jean Ann Pfisterer, Louisville Gas & Electric Company (LG&E)
  • Vincent James, Community Building, Louisville Metro Government

The committee will meet at 1:30 p.m.

This meeting will be held as a video teleconference under KRS 61.826 and Senate Bill 150. Members have the option of participating virtually from remote locations, or in person from the Metro Council Chambers on the third floor of Historic City Hall, 601 West Jefferson Street.

Under a declaration issued by the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness to slow the spread of COVID-19, public access to Historic City Hall is limited. In collaboration with the President’s Office, the City Hall entrance on 6th Street is locked with limited building access. A sign is posted on the door to call the on-duty security guard desk for approved entry.
