On Wednesday, the nonprofit organization will present a check for $20,000 to this week’s winner, Tony Thornton, of the Queen of Hearts drawing at Shirley’s Way Charitable Gaming, 10966 Dixie Highway, 40272 at 3pm.
“We are touching people in the community with the money raised and played with our weekly games,” said Mike Mulrooney, founder of Shirley’s Way. “We are close to giving away a million dollars to people fighting cancer and these raffles have helped tremendously with that.”

“Shirley’s Way has continued to do the necessary work to help families fighting cancer, even during a pandemic. Thanks to the community’s support, this organization has been able to continue its mission of need,” says Councilman David Yates (D-25).
Shirley’s Way was founded in 2014 and is named in honor of Mike Mulrooney’s mother, Shirley Mulrooney of Louisville. In the course of her life, she was known as a loving person who always was there for those in need. She was a giving, yet simple person who never really cared about material things. She loved her family and kids in general. She passed in March of 2013 after liver cancer spread throughout her body.
The Queen of Hearts drawing occurs regularly every Monday evening at Shirley’s Way Charitable Gaming. Next week’s drawing will carry over more than $180,000. Tickets are $2 each. Money raised from the game helps Shirley’s Way’s mission of giving.
Shirley’s Way has a simple mission of supporting cancer patients and their families. They support them by paying mortgage, car payments, insurance and utilities as needed so they can concentrate on fighting the disease and not worry about how they will live. To date the organization has almost raised $1 million to help cancer victims and their families.
