1. Louisiana School Coach Arrested in Child Trafficking Investigation (kpel965.com) — An Alexandria-area undercover investigation led to the arrest of a Rapides Parish School Board coach and bus driver on multiple child human-trafficking related charges. State Police, the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office, and the FBI are involved, and authorities stress the case is ongoing while urging residents to report any suspected trafficking through the state's anonymous online system.
2. Alexandria ties for 29th among Louisiana cities in July scam reports (centrallouisiananews.com) — Alexandria logged just two BBB Scam Tracker reports in July, down sharply from nine in June, with about $199 in reported losses and counterfeit products the top issue. Local residents are urged to use BBB Scam Tracker to research suspicious offers and share scam experiences as fraud losses continue to climb nationwide.
3. Alexandria International Airport air traffic control manager retires after more than 40 years of service (rapidesparishjournal.com) — Alexandria International Airport is honoring longtime air traffic control manager Ray Schindler as he retires after more than four decades of military and civilian service. Schindler helped shape operations at AEX and previously led the Louisiana Air National Guard's 259th Air Traffic Control Squadron in Alexandria, leaving a legacy airport leaders say set a high standard for safety and professionalism.
4. Alexandria woman arrested in high-speed chase holds prominent Rapides Parish position (kalb.com) — An Alexandria woman who serves as executive director of the Kisatchie-Delta Regional Planning and Development District in Rapides Parish has been arrested after an alleged three-parish high-speed chase. She faces multiple charges, while her role in helping secure funding for regional ports and local governments makes the case especially notable for Alexandria-area residents.
5. Meike van Straten named RRAC Defensive Player of the Week (cenlanow.com) — Alexandria's own LSUA Generals just saw senior goalkeeper Meike van Straten named Red River Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week after backstopping a shutout win and a nine-save performance. The Generals head to Mobile next, then return home to Alexandria on Sunday to host Bethel University, giving local fans an early-season chance to cheer her on.
