2. Our Lady of the Lake emergency department undergoing $55 million renovation (wafb.com) — Emergency care in Baton Rouge is getting a major upgrade as Our Lady of the Lake's ER undergoes a $55 million renovation to add monitored beds, new trauma rooms and a dedicated CT scanner. Construction is on schedule, with the revamped emergency department expected to start seeing patients in March 2027 while current services continue operating.
3. Southern University students deal with repeated outages as officials look for long-term fix (wafb.com) — Southern University students in Baton Rouge are coping with repeated power outages that have knocked out air conditioning, Wi‑Fi and laundry, disrupting classes and daily life in the dorms. Officials blame failed campus electrical equipment and are testing systems while planning costly long-term fixes, including new switchgear and potential state or federal funding partnerships.
4. Aging Well: AARP to host free fraud prevention event in Baton Rouge (louisianafirstnews.com) — A free AARP fraud-prevention workshop is coming to Baton Rouge Community College's Magnolia Theatre on Oct. 21, offering residents expert advice on spotting and avoiding scams. Attendees can hear a nationally known fraud expert, join a panel discussion, explore local resources, and enjoy a complimentary lunch while learning how to better protect themselves and their families.
5.
