Today's riddle: What do you call a belt that is made of watches? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. City of Franklin continues water improvements (stmarynow.com) — Franklin residents should expect intermittent low water pressure, discoloration, and construction crews as the city continues a multi-year, $2.4 million overhaul of its aging water system and hydrants. Work at the Franklin Water Plant and across distribution lines aims to improve water quality, reliability, and fire protection, though officials warn that replacing century-old pipes will take time and bring temporary inconveniences.
2. LDWF agents make separate alligator harvesting cases (techetoday.com) — Wildlife agents recently cited a Franklin resident after finding a dead alligator hidden along Franklin Canal in St. Mary Parish, saying he admitted shooting it without a license. The case, along with a separate St. Martin Parish incident, highlights how alligator hunting rules work and the fines and possible jail time locals can face for violations.
3. Loreauville, Franklin shipyards win contract to build $40M drone boats for U.S. Navy (klfy.com) — A Franklin shipyard has been tapped to help build unmanned surface vessels for the U.S. Navy as part of a $1.2 billion contract, with production starting locally as soon as 2027. The Saronic facility in Franklin, formerly Gulf Craft, is undergoing major expansion to handle the work, positioning the town as a key player in cutting-edge naval technology and potential new jobs.
4. Saronic breaks ground on new Port Alpha shipyard in Texas (tspantx.com) — Saronic is expanding its shipbuilding footprint with a massive new Port Alpha yard in Texas, but it's also pouring $300 million into new infrastructure at its existing Franklin, La., shipyard. That investment aims to boost production of its Marauder unmanned vessels, potentially supporting more high-tech maritime jobs and industrial activity tied to Franklin.
