Today's riddle: Why are crows so alert and curious? 🤔 (Answer below!)
• New Orleans honors Freedom Rider Jerome 'Big Duck' Smith at celebration of life (wwltv.com) — New Orleans residents gathered Saturday to celebrate the life and legacy of Freedom Rider Jerome "Big Duck" Smith, a Tremé native who spent decades fighting segregation and empowering local youth. Mourners honored his civil-rights work, his Tamborine and Fan organization, and his deep commitment to Black history with a heartfelt service followed by a second line through the Sixth and Seventh wards.
• New Orleans Police search for missing 16-year-old girl (wdsu.com) — New Orleans police are asking residents to help find 16-year-old Terryella Washington, last seen Saturday afternoon near Louisiana Avenue and Magnolia Street. She is 5-foot-6, about 160 pounds, and was wearing a dark gray hoodie, black joggers, black Crocs, and a black bonnet. Anyone with information is urged to call Sixth District Detectives or NOPD immediately.
• St. Bernard Parish lawsuit against Port NOLA moves forward after judge denies dismissal (fox8live.com) — A judge in neighboring St. Bernard Parish has allowed the parish's lawsuit against the Port of New Orleans over the planned Louisiana International Terminal to move forward, keeping the project's future uncertain. For New Orleans–area residents, the ruling means continued legal wrangling over a multi‑billion‑dollar terminal that could reshape regional shipping, jobs, and traffic, even as port officials say construction planning still proceeds under a federal permit.
