Today's riddle: What is clean when it is black and dirty when it is white? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. New Orleans streets flood as 3 inches of rain an hour causes storm drains to bubble (thecooldown.com) — Heavy rain recently overwhelmed parts of Mid-City and the New Orleans metro, flooding streets, bubbling storm drains, and even forcing at least one downtown restaurant to close for safety. A local meteorologist warned of flash flooding as rainfall neared three inches an hour, reminding residents how quickly access to work, emergency travel, and businesses can be disrupted by intense downpours.
2. Officials cite fewer tire dumpings in New Orleans East, but massive trash piles remain (wwltv.com) — Illegal dumping of tires and trash along I-10 near the Michoud exit in New Orleans East is finally slowing, but huge piles still line the roadway as cleanup lags. State transportation officials credit tougher enforcement partnerships, while a new Inspector General audit will soon reveal whether the city's Sanitation Department has the tools and oversight needed to tackle remaining dump sites.
3. WWE Money in the Bank 2026: New Orleans Goes All In (ngscsports.com) — This Saturday, WWE's Money in the Bank 2026 takes over the Smoothie King Center, bringing two high-stakes ladder matches and a World Heavyweight Championship bout to New Orleans fans. With Roman Reigns defending his title, stacked men's and women's fields, and a heavyweight clash between Oba Femi and Bronson Reed, the show promises big storylines and plenty of spectacle for local wrestling followers.
4. Autumn reads to fall for, according to Tulane literature experts (tulane.edu) — Tulane English faculty in New Orleans are sharing their favorite books to ease you into fall, from poetry and classic odes to sharp contemporary novels and memoirs. Their picks, grounded in themes of seasonal change, technology, and identity, include a free on-campus author talk next month and several titles perfect for escaping the city's lingering heat.
5. Duke at AAO 2026 (duke.edu) — Starting tomorrow, New Orleans will host the American Academy of Ophthalmology's 2026 annual meeting, drawing eye specialists and researchers from around the world.
