🌱 COVID Testing Cites Closed + Nashville Ave. Shootout

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in New Orleans.

Hello again, everybody! I'm back in your inbox this morning with your new edition of the New Orleans Daily. Come along to find out everything you need to know about what's happening in town...

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny and pleasant. High: 86 Low: 76.

Here are the top three stories today in New Orleans:

  1. An alleged car burglary turned into a shootout and put two gunshot wound victims in the hospital on Friday night. A resident of Nashville Avenue reportedly saw his car being stolen around 9 p.m. on Friday. He shot at the alleged perpetrators, striking them. The incident is still being investigated, and no one has been arrested yet. (FOX 8 Local First)
  2. In the wake of the horribly mismanaged evacuation of nursing home residents from hurricane Ida in the fall, the Louisiana Department of Health has begun investigating and working towards new solutions with the NOLA Health department. The goal is to better serve nursing home and assisted living residents and prevent catastrophes like the Ida evacuation in the future. (FOX 8 Local First)
  3. You can now no longer get tested at two major New Orleans COVID testing sites: Mahalia Jackson Theater and Alario Center have closed for good. While the current spike in cases doesn't seem to have gone away, the closure of these two cites represents a potential end to the pandemic era. (WWLTV.com)

Today in New Orleans:

  • Patio Planters' Secret Gardens of the Vieux Carré walking tour (noon to - 4 p.m.)
  • New Orleans Mimosa Fest at Southport Music Hall (11 a.m.)
  • Standup Comedy and Open Mic Showcase at Hi-Ho lounge (8 p.m.)

From my notebook:

  • The Urban South Brewery will kick off pride month with live music performances at their Tchoupitoulas St Taproom on June 4! (New Orleans Magazine)
  • In another case of Sewage and Water Board billing disputes a New Orleans man is suing the S&WB over a $50,000 water bill. (WWLTV.com)
  • The Preservation Resource Center's In-Person Shotgun House tour will return to the public on June 11 and 12. (New Orleans Magazine)

Thanks for following along and staying informed. See you all tomorrow morning for another update!
