🌱 Delayed Charter School Repairs + Shooting In NOLA East

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in New Orleans.

Hi all. I'm back with your new copy of the New Orleans Daily. Let's get this day started off right, with a quick dive into the most important things going on around town.

First, today's weather:

Heavy rain and a thunderstorm. High: 83 Low: 69.

Here are the top three stories today in New Orleans:

  1. After the Friends of King Charter Schools neglected to fix its buildings on time, NOLA Public Schools has decided to use its funding to make the repairs itself. The Friends of King were having difficulty securing a contractor for repairs for supply chain disruptions, but also felt that the repairs weren't needed. This sparked action from NOLA-PS, who decided to step in and do the repairs on its own. (NOLA.com)
  2. New Orleans police are currently searching for a missing teenager, 15-year-old Brando Gomez-Quip, who was last seen on Monday in a Josephine Street residence. (WDSU New Orleans)
  3. NOPD is currently investigating a Wednesday morning shooting in New Orleans East that left one man with a gunshot wound to the body. The shooting happened at the intersection of Crowder and Lake Forest boulevards and the victim was transported to the hospital for treatment. (WGNO New Orleans)

  • The NOLA Project's Treasure Island at the New Orleans Museum of Arts (7:30 p.m.)

From my notebook:

  • Thirteen years after the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet was closed so it could go back to its natural state as a helpful storm protectant, the wetlands are finally starting to see some progress and recovery. (WDSU New Orleans)
  • City Officials celebrated the completion of a $3.5 million roadway repair project in the Upper Ninth Ward on Tuesday. (Press Release Desk)
  • The winner of the NOLA-PS 'stay in school' raffle, a raffle sponsored by Premier Automotive Group that awards a brand new car to a high school senior with perfect attendance, has been announced and given to a graduate from Livingston Collegiate Academy High School. (KLFY)
