Here are the top three stories in New Orleans today:

  1. The Orleans Parish Justice Center's fifth stabbing this month is currently being investigated by the Sheriffs office. After a slew of stabbings occurred during the first week of August, it seems that the problem of violence within the facility is not over. Two inmates were stabbed during the incident this week, along with two other physical altercations reported. (WDSU New Orleans)
  2. The historic Creole cultural site and New Orleans Jazz landmark, Perseverance Hall, which has been standing in the 7th ward since the 1880s, has collapsed. A poor job by preservationists along with damage from Hurricane Ida and heavy rain lead the building to crumble on Friday. The 7th ward, with the Jazz and Creole community is left to mourn the loss of the significant site, at least until an organization attempts to fix it. (Fox 10 News)
  3. After an two violent incidents at Akili Academy in the past week, one where a student allegedly tased two others and a young girl waved a gun at a school bus, advocates are holding a protest outside the Orleans Parish School Board building urging leaders to leaders to take more action and try to fix the underlying issues that culminated in these violent incidents.
