Louisiana Association for the Blind cuts ribbon on new center (westcentralsbest.com) — Shreveport residents who are blind or visually impaired now have access to an expanded, $4.8 million assistive technology center on Claiborne Avenue, operated by the Louisiana Association for the Blind. The renovated 14,000-square-foot facility offers more screenings, training, and cutting-edge devices like smart glasses and talking canes, continuing nearly a century of local support and employment opportunities for visually impaired people.
   

2. Shreveport police arrest 16 impaired drivers in weekend push (ktalnews.com) — Shreveport drivers are being warned after the police DWI Unit arrested 16 suspected impaired drivers during a weekend enforcement push, bringing the department close to 500 DWI arrests this year. Officers say they will keep up aggressive patrols to deter impaired driving and emphasize that choosing to drive under the influence in Shreveport can quickly lead to arrest.
   

3. Shreveport opens 2-bedroom public housing waitlist soon (ktalnews.com) — Shreveport families needing affordable housing should prepare now for a short, 52-hour window to apply for the city's two-bedroom public housing waitlist later this month. Applications open online the morning of Sept. 28 and close Sept. 30, with no paper forms available, so households must gather key documents and be ready to submit electronically during that period.
   

4. Frymaster invests $11.5 million to expand Shreveport manufacturing facility (ksla.com) — Frymaster is pouring $11.5 million into expanding its Shreveport manufacturing footprint, creating space for new assembly lines and up to 113 potential new jobs in the region. The longtime local fryer maker has opened a massive Line Avenue facility, already using part of it for warehousing and assembly while preparing for additional modernization over the next five years.
   

5. Louisiana's Gift to America Event at Shreveport Municipal (highway989.com) — Shreveport music lovers are invited to a free "Louisiana's Gift to America" concert at the historic Municipal Auditorium this Friday, celebrating the state's outsized influence on American music. With performances by BeauSoleil, Dr. Michael White, and A.J. Haynes, the evening will blend live music and conversations, and will be filmed and live-streamed statewide.
