Pope Leo XIV Accepts Resignation of Louisiana Bishop Francis Malone of Shreveport and Appoints Bishop Robert Marshall as Apostolic Administrator (catholicnewsworld.com) — Catholics in Shreveport will see a major leadership change as Pope Leo XIV has accepted Bishop Francis Malone's resignation from governing the Diocese of Shreveport. Bishop Robert Marshall of Alexandria has been appointed Apostolic Administrator, temporarily overseeing the diocese until a new bishop is selected and installed.
   

2. Mayor: City cameras could have helped in search for escaped inmate (ksla.com) — An escaped inmate's run from Ochsner LSU Health has Shreveport officials reviewing whether the city's Flock license plate cameras could have helped track him sooner. Mayor Tom Arceneaux says footage near the hospital will be checked and shared with law enforcement, while residents are urged to call 911 or Crime Stoppers with any sightings.
   

3. A new look for a new purpose: First section of newly painted Jimmie Davis Bridge revealed (shreveportbossierjournal.com) — Drivers and residents in Shreveport-Bossier are seeing the first freshly painted section of the historic Jimmie Davis Bridge as it's transformed into Louisiana's first linear park for walkers and cyclists. Meanwhile, construction of the new $361 million four-lane bridge and major reconstruction of LA 511 approaches in both cities are moving ahead on schedule toward a mid-2027 completion.
   

4. L.A.B.'s new technology center opens to train blind residents (shreveporttimes.com) — Shreveport residents who are blind or visually impaired now have access to a new $4.8 million Assistive Technology Center from the Louisiana Association for the Blind, founded by the Lions Club of Shreveport. The expanded facility offers assessments, training, and cutting-edge tools to help clients work, navigate the community, and live more independently, while continuing L.A.B.'s long tradition of local employment and manufacturing.
   

5. NSU announces 2026 high school essay winners, including Shreveport student (ktalnews.com) — A C.E. Byrd High School student from Shreveport has earned third place in Northwestern State University's statewide 2026 High School Essay contest, which focused on remembering Louisiana's people and places. Winners receive NSU scholarships, cash prizes, and the chance to have their work published, giving local students valuable recognition and potential college support.
