Fatal Crash On Interstate 20 Near Bert Kouns Kills Two (710keel.com) β A deadly crash on I-20 eastbound near Bert Kouns in Shreveport killed two people and critically injured two others Friday afternoon, shutting down both eastbound lanes for hours. Two 18-wheelers collided after one crossed the median, and traffic was detoured onto Highway 80 while emergency crews and investigators worked the scene.

Cornerstone Youth & Family Services holds Shreveport hiring event (ksla.com) β Shreveport residents looking to work with children and families can attend Cornerstone Youth & Family Services' hiring event on Oct. 7 at Louisiana Tower downtown. The organization, which began serving Shreveport in April, is recruiting wraparound facilitators and interns, including bilingual applicants, with same-day interviews and walk-in opportunities available.

Council Connects launches in Shreveport to engage residents in local government (westcentralsbest.com) β Shreveport residents just wrapped up the first Council Connects workshop at Southern University at Shreveport, where about 40 people from all seven council districts learned how city government works. Participants met city leaders, explored services from public safety to parks, and finished the day with a graduation ceremony recognizing them as neighborhood "city champions."

SWEPCO celebrates graduation of 18 journeyman lineworkers (kdhnews.com) β A group of 18 SWEPCO lineworkers has just graduated to journeyman status after a ceremony at the company's Midsouth Tower headquarters in downtown Shreveport. They completed 8,000 hours of classroom and field training to help build and maintain the regional power grid across Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas, with many starting through partnerships at regional technical colleges.
