Murder suspect stood next to fire chief at Drexel Street fire scene (ksla.com) β Shreveport residents are learning more about a deadly Sept. 1 house fire on Drexel Street, where police now say a resident set the blaze that killed his roommate. Investigators arrested 38-year-old Sherrick Hill this week on charges including aggravated arson and second-degree murder, after he initially stood at the scene claiming someone else started the fire.

Louisiana workforce on track to top 2 million jobs this year (ksla.com) β Shreveport's job market is poised for major growth, with economist Loren Scott projecting 4,800 new jobs in the Shreveport-Bossier region over the next two years, driven by Amazon data centers, Port of Caddo-Bossier expansion, and energy activity. He says at least 1,650 of those positions should be permanent non-construction roles, helping the state surpass 2 million jobs and strengthening key local employers like SLB, Barksdale Air Force Base, and the Cyber Research Park.

Shreveport fatal crashes rise 29% as speeding remains a concern (westcentralsbest.com) β Shreveport is seeing a sharp rise in traffic danger, with more than 7,300 crashes and 31 fatalities so far this year, a 29% jump in deadly wrecks. Local police and city leaders are ramping up enforcement, targeting speeding and impaired driving, adding speed trailers, and working with state lawmakers as Caddo Parish leads Louisiana in fatal crashes.
