'Focus On The Future' Scholarship Will Make College More Affordable For LSUS Students

The Brookshire Grocery Co. has endowed a new scholarship for students at LSU Shreveport.

The Brookshire Grocery Co. has endowed a new scholarship for students at LSU Shreveport.

The company is partnering with LSUS and more than 40 other universities and colleges through its β€œFocus on the Future” scholarship program. Brookshire’s is investing more than $1 million in the program to support communities in Louisiana, Texas and Arkansas.

The Brookshire’s Super 1 Foods β€œFocus on the Future” Endowed Scholarship at LSUS will offer financial assistance to students studying any field related to grocery operations. The scholarship will provide tuition assistance to graduate and undergraduate students enrolled in the participating institutions starting in fall 2021.

β€œWe are very excited to launch a lasting program which will help thousands of students achieve their dreams for years to come,” said Brad Brookshire, chairman and CEO for Brookshire Grocery Co. β€œWe support our local communities and value education which is one of our top philanthropic efforts. So many families and individuals have been financially impacted by the pandemic. We are proud to be able to help those aspiring towards their dreams.”

At LSUS, the scholarship will be available to any incoming freshman majoring in any area related to grocery operations. Students must have a grade point average of 2.75 and must demonstrate financial need.

Based in Tyler, Texas, BGC is a regional family-owned grocery business that employs more than 15,000 individuals throughout Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas. The company operates more than 180 stores under the Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods, FRESH by Brookshire’s and Spring Market banners, along with three distribution centers and corporate offices.
