The SLA was torn completely down to its studs in the interior over the last four months. A new roof, new flooring, walls, lighting, ADA compliant furniture, a sound system and state-of-the-art technology were all installed. Students can now plug in or charge their personal technology devices from every seat. β€œThis was one of many projects that have been in the works for quite some time,” said Barbie Cannon, Vice Chancellor for Business Affairs at LSUS. β€œWe know that in order to remain a leader in education in our region, we need to continue to upgrade and modernize our campus to meet the needs of the 21st century student.”

The SLA joins other spaces on campus designed to help students succeed in the rapidly evolving corporate and research landscapes, where concepts such as digital dexterity, adaptive thinking, and multidisciplinary aptitude are highly sought after. The auditorium will be used by academic and non-academic groups across campus, providing a large classroom space for any discipline to use or as a space to host continuing education or community engagement lectures. β€œThe SLA is one of our crown jewels,” said Dr. Helen Taylor, LSUS Provost. β€œIt looks wonderful and makes the perfect backdrop for cutting-edge science instruction as well as other talks, teaching opportunities, and public events.”
