Now through December 11, Shreve Memorial Library branches are collecting household cleaning supplies in support of Providence House. Providence House is a residential treatment facility for homeless families with children, providing comprehensive support services for improving the family structure. Providence House’s mission is to break the homelessness cycle one family at a time. The public is encouraged to drop off needed cleaning supplies and toiletries at any of Shreve Memorial Library’s 21 branches throughout Caddo Parish.

The cleaning supply drive is being organized by the current class of SML University, the library’s emergent leader program. SML University is a 15-week course designed to develop leadership skills needed for continued success and advancement in the Shreve Memorial Library system. The program is open to current Shreve Memorial Library employees aspiring to obtain supervisory roles. Students complete professional development coursework and training, a mentorship program, and community service project.
The current class of SML University partnered with Providence House to host a cleaning supply drive November 29 through December 11 as part of their community service project. “We know it’s right on the heels of our food drive,” stated Sarah Hamm, Shreve Memorial Library Training and Development Coordinator, “but we feel strongly about helping these families have a safe and healthy holiday season.”

Collection boxes for the supply drive are available at all Shreve Memorial Library branches. Needed items include Lysol disinfecting wipes, paper towels, brooms and dust pans, latex gloves, hand sanitizer, trash bags, bleach, glass cleaner, Kleenex, Fabuloso, first aid supplies, diapers, baby wipes, mattress pads, baby food, blankets and pillows. Additional items can also be donated, however cleaning supplies and toiletries are of greatest need.
