Shreve Memorial Library’s mobile makerspace, the Make & Go, is bringing STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) learning to library branches throughout Caddo Parish. This month, the SML Make & Go is inviting children ages 8 years and older to get ready for “Lights. Camera. Action!” with stop-motion LEGO workshops. The workshops will be held at Shreve Memorial Library branches starting October 12.

Children will learn the basics of stop-motion animation, a filmmaking technique where objects are physically manipulated in small increments between individually photographed frames. When the frames are played back consecutively, the objects appear to have movement and thus become animated. Children will learn the basics of this animation technique to bring their LEGOs to life.

Throughout the month of October, the SML Make & Go team will visit Shreve Memorial Library branches to offer these stop-motion LEGO workshops to Shreve Memorial Library patrons. The workshops are designed for children ages 8 years and older. Workshops are scheduled as follows:

  • Tuesday, October 12 at 4:30 p.m. at the Atkins Branch, 3704 Greenwood Road
  • Wednesday, October 13 at 4:00 p.m. at the North Shreveport Branch, 4844 North Market Street
  • Friday, October 15 at 4:00 p.m. at the Cedar Grove-Line Avenue Branch, 8303 Line Avenue
  • Monday, October 18 at 4:00 p.m. at the West Shreveport Branch, 4380 Pines Road
  • Tuesday, October 19 at 4:00 p.m. at the Broadmoor Branch, 1212 Captain Shreve Drive
  • Wednesday, October 20 at 4:00 p.m. at the Wallette Branch, 363 Hearne Avenue
  • Friday, October 22 at 3:30 p.m. at the Mooretown Branch, 4360 Hollywood Avenue
  • Monday, October 25 at 4:00 p.m. at the David Raines Branch, 2855 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive
  • Tuesday, October 26 at 4:00 p.m. at the Hollywood/Union Avenue Branch, 2105 Hollywood Avenue
  • Wednesday, October 27 at 3:30 p.m. at the Hamilton/South Caddo Branch, 2111 Bert Kouns industrial Loop
  • All workshops are free and open to the public, however space is limited and registration is required. In addition, face masks and social distancing are required. Registration for the program can be completed in person at one of the Shreve Memorial Library branches listed above.

    Shreve Memorial Library’s Make & Go is a fully equipped makerspace on wheels bringing the latest in STEAM programming to communities throughout Caddo Parish. The Make & Go provides STEAM programming on the go, traveling to outreach events, the library’s 21 branches, SPAR Recreation Centers, and more. Materials for use with the Make & Go include laptops, iPads, 3D printer and scanner, robotics, building sets, portable hotspots, arts and crafts supplies, SNAP circuits, and sewing and embroidery tools. The Make & Go is customizable to meet STEAM learning needs.
