An attempt to pull a prank didn't go well for a TV weatherman in northern Maine.

Vermont native Patrick Osborn's fit of girlish squeals has gone global.

WABI-TV's Grace Bradley later described her colleague's laugh attack as the "giggles heard 'round the world."

"Patrick Osborn's regularly scheduled weather report was sidetracked Sunday morning when he was suddenly struck by a fit of laughter," Bradley reported.

The source? A prank on weekend anchor Josh Gabbard that went on longer, and louder, than expected.

"It's the Charlie Brown phone call noise. It's one where his mom or teacher calls him, and it's the 'Wa, wa, wa,'" Osborn says. "Something as silly and light-hearted as a Charlie Brown sound made me completely lose my composure"

The Bangor, Maine meteorologist describes the time since the on-air chortles as "a little overwhelming."

He says it didn't take long for his uncontrollable laughs to go from viewers' screens to audiences across the globe.

"As soon as I got off camera, I wasn't sure what the response would be," Osborn said. "And so I was like a little worried, like, 'Uh-oh, I'm going to get in trouble for this.'"

Instead of finding himself in trouble, he found himself reposted, according to Bradley.

"The viral social media moment got him featured on CBS Morning on Tuesday, alongside other media outlets all over the world," she said.

Osborn says the moment of embarrassment was all in good fun - at least he hopes that's the upshot of the fallout.

He grew up in the small town of Norwich, Vermont, later getting a bachelor's degree in atmospheric sciences from Vermont State University in Lyndon, Vermont.

He interned and was a freelance meteorologist at ABC22/FOX44 in Burlington, Vermont, throughout his college days.

He also was a student meteorologist for Lyndon's college news station, News7.
