The supermarket war kicks it up a notch Friday, with Market Basket opening its new store in southern Maine.
The 80,000-square-foot store has hired 350 people to work there, officials said.
The market is located at The Downs, formerly the Scarborough Downs horse racetrack.
It's the fourth the company has in Maine, the others in Topsham, Westbrook and Biddeford.
Market Basket currently operates 90 locations across New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Maine.
The first Market Basket opened in Lowell, Massachusetts, in 1917.
The biggest grocery store in Maine by the numbers is Hannaford, with 58 locations, followed by Shaw's and Walmart, each with 19.
