📰 News we're reading

• Can you swim along Augusta's public riverfront without city permission? (pressherald.com) — If you're thinking about swimming along Augusta's Kennebec River riverfront, city rules still ban it on or next to city-owned property unless you get written permission from the harbormaster. The exception was added in 2022 for events like triathlons, but the city's online code hasn't been updated, so residents may see outdated information about a total ban.

• New dashboard features data on Maine's manufactured housing communities (wmtw.com) — State housing officials in Augusta have launched a new online dashboard that maps all 475 licensed manufactured housing communities in Maine, including vacant lots and average lot rents. The tool is meant to help residents, local officials, and advocates understand where affordable manufactured housing exists, how much it costs, and where there's room for new homes across the state.

• Feds mum on ICE agent involved in Biddeford shooting (spectrumlocalnews.com) — From Augusta, state officials are staying tight-lipped about the ICE agent involved in a fatal July shooting in Biddeford, declining to confirm his identity or job status. Federal and state investigators, including the Maine Attorney General's Office, are still reviewing what happened, while Rep. Chellie Pingree and other Democrats press for answers about how immigration enforcement decisions are being made in Maine.
