📰 News we're reading

1. 29-year-old killed in Maine crash involving commercial vehicle (nbcboston.com) — A deadly early-morning crash in Augusta closed Route 3 between West River Road and the I-95 roundabouts Thursday, after a car and commercial truck collided, killing a 29-year-old Winslow man. Augusta police are still investigating the cause and are asking anyone who saw the crash or has information to contact the department. Maine State Police are assisting.

2. Under new QB leadership, Cony football turns the page (centralmaine.com) — Cony High's football team in Augusta is entering a new era as junior quarterback Drew Lindquist steps in for standout alum Parker Morin. Coaches and teammates say Lindquist's smarts and experience in Augusta's complex spread offense could keep the Rams competitive despite key injuries and last year's heavy graduation losses.

3. Maine man allegedly preyed on young girls online (bangordailynews.com) — A Pittston man is facing multiple felony charges after investigators say they found explicit images of young girls on his seized electronics, and he reportedly admitted to inappropriate behavior with the material. He is being held at the Kennebec County Jail in Augusta on $10,000 bail, with strict conditions barring internet use and contact with minors.

4. Maine lawmakers hold hearing as labor and delivery units keep closing statewide (wgme.com) — At the State House in Augusta, lawmakers and health leaders spent hours probing why 12 labor and delivery units, including Lincoln Hospital's, have closed across Maine since 2014. Hospital executives cited staffing shortages, while DHHS floated using $17 million over a decade to shore up maternity care. Advocates urged urgent action, but any fixes now fall to the next legislature.

5. Postponed Maine EMS awards celebrate lifesavers, honor fallen heroes (wagmtv.com) — Maine's EMS community came together in Augusta this week for a rescheduled statewide awards ceremony that mixed grief for fallen first responders with gratitude for those still serving. Dozens of paramedics, firefighters, and EMS partners were honored, including a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award for longtime provider Rory Putnam.
